‘Peter Pan’ to be presented at Lewis Auditorium

“Peter Pan” will be presented in June by students at Zoika’s Dance.

It tells the classic J.M. Barrie story through the language of dance, featuring ballet, tap, hip hop, contemporary, jazz and acro dance.

Professional dancers will join young, local dancers on stage for performances at 7 p.m. June 1 and 1 p.m. June 2 at Lewis Auditorium, 14 Granada St., St. Augustine. The cast of 85 dancers will recreate the magic of Neverland to an eclectic musical score ranging from classical to rock to world music.

Tickets may be purchased online at zoikasdance.com.

“Peter Pan truly resonates with children and adults alike,” said director Zoika Garcia. “Between the lost boys, fairies, mermaids and pirates, there is so much adventure, excitement and otherworldly beauty to experience.”

St. Augustine’s Jake Karger will dance the role of Peter Pan, joined by dancers Mileena Bicknell as Tinkerbell, Claudia Mueckay as Wendy, Victoria Torbush as Tiger Lily and Jose Fuentes as both Peter Pan’s Shadow and Captain Hook’s First Mate. The swashbuckling cast of pirates will also feature professional tap dancers Jenne Vermes, Shelby Howell, Christie Woodson, Devin Mantei, Alex Rubio as Smee and Sean Mansfield as the infamous Captain Hook.

Garcia and the show’s sponsors are making sure that local children who might not otherwise be able to attend will get to experience the magic of “Peter Pan.” They are providing free tickets to the show for local children through nonprofit partners St. Augustine Youth Services, the Betty Griffin House, Fostering Connections and The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind. Deaf interpreter Amanda Villalobos will sign at each of the performances.

To become a sponsor and share this experience with local children, go to zoikasdance.com/sponsors or call 904-342-5920. Sponsorships of $250 and up will provide free tickets to local children through the production’s nonprofit partners.
