PetSmart stores hosting adoption event

If you have been considering adding a furry friend to your family, now is the perfect time to do it! PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week is July 20-29.

Late spring and summer mark “kitten season,” the time of year when animal shelters see an influx of vulnerable newborn kittens and nursing cats who need care and loving homes. For that reason, the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is partnering with PetSmart Charities to find homes for these animals.

Through its in-store adoption program in all PetSmart stores across the United States and Puerto Rico, PetSmart Charities connects up to 400,000 pets with loving families each year. PetSmart Charities also provides grant funding to support organizations that advocate for the well-being of all pets and their families.

During PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, JHS invites the public to meet adoptable pets of all ages at their local PetSmart store. Visitors can meet puppies, kittens, dogs and cats available for adoption. JHS staff will be available to help potential adopters spend time with pets, ask questions and find the right match for their homes and lifestyles.

All pets available for adoption at a Petsmart store have gone through a health screening to check for any serious illnesses.

“If you adopt a homeless pet from our store, we can help you get started with some extra savings,” said a company representative.

“Giving an adoptable pet a loving home can help save lives,” said Patrick Bell, director of pet placement initiatives at PetSmart Charities. “Adopting a pet is an important contribution to your local community. We’re proud to work alongside partners such JHS giving more pets in need people to love.”
