Ponte Vedra basketball continues hot streak

The Ponte Vedra Sharks basketball team faced off against the Nease Panthers on Jan. 23 and came away with a 53-46 victory.

After trailing 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Sharks outscored the Panthers in the following three quarters to earn their 15th win of the season.

Maddox Palmer led the scoring for the Sharks with 17 points, despite sitting out for most of the first half due to foul trouble. Ryan Speace also played a solid game for the Sharks, going 5-for-9 for 15 points.

This game marked the fourth straight win on the road for the Sharks. Ponte Vedra will play their last regular season home game on Jan. 30 against the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets.

With this loss, the Panthers ended a six-game winning streak at home, but they will look to redeem themselves on Jan. 29 as they face the Episcopal School Eagles.

The Beachside Barracudas were also playing basketball last Friday night and they defeated the Bartram Trail Bears 55-44.

Jeevan Iyengar had a big night for the Barracudas, going 8-for-13 and racking up 20 points, a new career high. The team also got a strong performance out of Bernardo Bornschein, who scored 10 points and had three steals.

On Jan. 24, the Creekside Knights lost to the Viera Hawks 61-42. The Knights will look to redeem themselves on Jan. 29 as they play their last regular season home game against the Westside Wolverines.
