High school basketball matchups did not disappoint in St. Johns County last week.
The Ponte Vedra Sharks defeated the Creekside Knights 67-46 on Jan. 16. This game marked the Sharks’ sixth victory in a row, thanks in large part to Maddox Palmer. Palmer had 25 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. He looks to be the early favorite for player of the year, not just in St. Johns County but in the entire Jacksonville area.
Sharks’ Sophomore Tyler Kroog also had a strong game, as he went 5-for-9 with a total of 14 points. Also for the Sharks, Chase Cowan scored 10 points, and Ryan Speace scored 8 points.
Despite Creekside’s loss, the Knights still got a strong performance from Dylan Scheets who shot 46% from the field. Brennan Lee also had a good game for Creekside posting 10 points.
The Beachside Barracudas ended a three-game winning streak on Jan. 16 when they fell to the Bishop Snyder Cardinals 58-66. The Barracudas are now 11-6 and will be on the road for back-to-back games against Christ’s Church Academy on Jan. 22 and the Bartram Trail Bears on Jan. 23.
The Nease Panthers defeated the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets 48-43 on Jan. 16. The Panthers’ next game will be at home against Ponte Vedra on Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
