The Ponte Vedra Democratic Club recently held a fundraiser to benefit underprivileged St. Johns County students during the holidays.
The organization raised more than $600 and collected food items for Hugs Across the County, a nonprofit organization that provides food, clothes, school supplies and other items to local students in need. The fundraiser was part of the nonprofit’s greater Holiday Hunger Project to ensure that students who receive free school breakfast and lunch programs don’t go hungry over holiday break.
Hugs Across the County has been collecting a list of kid-friendly food items that don’t require parent supervision or electricity from organizations like the Ponte Vedra Democratic Club. The list of needed items includes cereal, crackers, peanut butter, Pop Tarts, applesauce, granola bars and Chef Boyardee-style meals.
To supplement their efforts, Hugs Across the County is also accepting donations online at bit.ly/hugsdonat.
