Alexandra Austin-Christoforatos of Ponte Vedra was recently awarded the Girl Scout Gold Medal by the Northern California Council for her camp recycling program.
Previously, the camp – which hosts campers from around the world – did not recycle.
The gold medal is the highest award presented by the Girl Scouts of the United States for outstanding demonstration of a community project that has a global impact.
Austin-Christoforatos has also earned silver and bronze medals for projects benefiting ConKerr Cancer Pillowcases for Kids and St. Augustine’s Betty Griffin Center. She also assisted her Brownie troop with a book drive for a child care center in Mayport.
