Contributing Editor’s note:

My granddaughter, Anna Hughes, is a rising fifth grade student at Palmer Catholic Academy. In June, Anna had an opportunity to attend Donald Trump’s remarks at Trump National Golf Club in Westchester, New York following the California primary election win that gave Trump the delegates needed to secure the Republican nomination. She received official press credentials as a student reporter. Following is Anna’s report in her own words as she recorded them that evening. – Janet Westling

There has been a real big race going on throughout the country right now. Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are up for the win. I am now at Trump National Golf Club waiting for Donald Trump to arrive after he wins the California primary to hear what he has to say about this election.

As we are waiting, many people are packed into this room just to hear what he has to say. But these people are from all across the globe. There are people from Japan, England and more. Me and my family even got interviewed from Japanese reporters. Mr. Trump walked in, thanking a lot of states around America. He said his campaign received more votes than a lot of other candidates in history. He talked about how he was going to help us.

Mr. Trump thanked the people who voted for him. I could tell that he was very confident in himself when he walked in.

He said that he likes bringing people together, but he is determined to fight for what is important. He was very polite by saying “Hello” at the beginning and “folks” in between what he was saying.

He said that he didn’t have to run for president, but he needed to do this to give back to our country. He also stated that we can turn our country around by putting America first!

Mr. Trump said that we are going to put Americans back to work and make our own products. I thought that he was very persuasive and determined to give back to America. I hope he wins!
