Shark bite reported at Ponte Vedra Beach

An unidentified man was taken to the emergency room for treatment of a shark bite he suffered at Ponte Vedra Beach Sunday, Sept. 11, St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) said.

According to SJCFR, the victim was bitten at around 3:30 p.m. and taken to an emergency room for treatment. CBS 47/FOX 30 Action News Jacksonville reported that he told a couple on the beach he had been wading in knee-deep water when he saw a shark about 3- to 4-feet in length. The couple then called 911.

The news comes just weeks after a previous shark bite was reported in Ponte Vedra Beach near Sawgrass Beach Club. According to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office report, David Cassetty was walking in knee-deep water near the club at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 25 when he felt something bite his left ankle. Cassetty was treated at the hospital for a four-inch bite to the leg.
