The Municipal Service District (MSD) of Ponte Vedra Beach held their monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Ponte Vedra Library.
Vice Chairman Al Hollon opened the meeting with public comments. There were several residents in attendance who commented on the ongoing sidewalk issue.
One resident, who lives on San Juan Drive, talked about a petition that he submitted to the board with 139 names on it who were all pro-sidewalk.
“This petition is to reinforce the message to the MSD and to the county that the project needs to move forward as quickly as possible,” he said.
He went on to say that 50 of the names on the petition were from residents who lived on all sections of San Juan Drive.
Another resident stated that her mailbox gets hit three to four times a year.
“It’s a safety issue, and it’s a ticking time bomb without a sidewalk,” she said.
All the residents in attendance agreed that a solution to the ongoing sidewalk discussion has to be reached.
The board voted to get an engineering design for a sidewalk from Solana Road to Pablo Road North.
Also in attendance was a St. Johns County law enforcement officer who talked about the importance of the E-bike town hall meeting on Sept.15.
“I just had one that was going 42 mph on a sidewalk. It’s a serious issue,” he said.
Trustee John Cellucci gave his report about the flags that will be going up on Ponte Vedra Boulevard for Veterans Day. The flags will go up on Nov. 8 and will stay up for about a week. The cadets enrolled in JROTC at Nease High School will help to put the flags up and take them down. Cellucci also said the flagpoles are being changed from the wooden poles to the aluminum poles.
