Sporting Jax ties with Spokane at home

Sporting Club Jacksonville faced off against Spokane Zephyr FC on Saturday, March 28, at Hodges Stadium. The match ended in a draw with a final score of 1-1.

Before the game started, Sporting Jax recognized Spencer Carper, a teacher at Atlantic Beach Elementary. Carper was the recipient of the Heart and Hustle Award, an award part of a health and physical education program. This program recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership, dedication and impact in promoting wellness, fitness and lifelong healthy habits.

At this point in the season, Sporting Jax has played in just about every type of weather condition, and this match was no different. Both teams were battling cold, windy weather which is not ideal for the game of soccer.

“The ball was bouncing in weird ways, and it kept us on our toes, but we should be able to play in any conditions, so that is on us,” said Sporting Jax captain Sophie Jones.

Windy conditions aside, Sporting Jax failed to take advantage of their opportunities in the first half of the match.

“We didn’t make the most of our moments in the first half like we could have,” said Head Coach Stacey Balaam.

Sporting Jax is currently in first place in the Gainbridge Super League, and every point matters.

“We just have to get back to work and figure out ways to improve,” said Balaam.

Sporting Jax will return to Hodges Stadium this Saturday, April 4, to take on Brooklyn FC at 2 p.m. The Sporting Jax Men’s team will also play at Hodges Stadium on Saturday as they face off against Tampa Bay at 7:30 p.m.
