A St. Augustine couple has made a $75-million gift to Mayo Clinic in Florida, according to an article posted on the health system’s website.

Paula and Randy Ringhaver made the gift in memory of their infant son, Randal “Lee” Ringhaver Jr., who passed away in 1980 at 8 1/2 months of age due to an aggressive form of leukemia, according to the article.

The gift will support Mayo Clinic’s next-generation health care model, branded “Bold. Forward. Unbound.” It is described as “a multibillion-dollar investment across Mayo Clinic to create warm, welcoming environments that intentionally integrate artificial intelligence, platform-powered outcomes and digital technologies to empower care teams to deliver better patient outcomes.”

Essentially, it is a transformation of the physical and digital infrastructure.

In honor of the Ringhavers’ gift, a newly expanded hospital tower at Mayor Clinic in Florida will be named the Lee Ringhaver Tower. A five-story expansion of the tower began serving patients in 2025. It adds 121 rooms and integrates digital technologies.

Including the tower expansion, Mayo Clinic in Florida’s transformation encompasses more than 725,000 square feet of new clinical, research and education space, according to the article. Across Mayo Clinic, the investment will add more than 4 million square feet of transformative space in three states.
