St. Augustine Humane Society launches 6th annual Pin Up Paws calendar photo contest

Is your pet ridiculously photogenic? If so, they may have a shot of being featured in the 2017 Pin Up Paws calendar, a fundraiser to support the St. Augustine Humane Society’s mission of promoting healthy, lifelong pet ownership and reducing the rate of relinquishment to shelters.

This is the sixth year for the nonprofit organization’s calendar fundraiser. This year’s theme, “Travel Tails,” will feature the winning pets and an imaginary destination while the dog or cat is fitted with accessories to match their unique personalities.

Owners wishing to participate in the photo contest can visit www.pinuppaws.com to register their pet and submit a photo; pet photos can be entered until Thursday, Aug. 18. Top photos and contest winners will be determined with public voting. Pet owners are encouraged to campaign for votes to win a spot in the Pin Up Paws calendar. The pet with the overall most votes will be the “cover pet,” and the 12 runners-up will each represent a month in the calendar. Voting ends Aug. 20.

A $1 per vote donation will go directly to the St. Augustine Humane Society; the humane society has a goal to reach $18,000 during the fundraiser. Donations are tax-deductible and may be made through a secure online payment. Businesses can also sponsor printing costs by purchasing advertising space in the calendar.

Winning pets will have a styling and photography session at Leonard’s Studio with renowned local photographer Addison Fitzgerald. Local fine artist Maribel Angel will again be donating her graphics services to design the calendar.

Approximately 1,500 full-size color calendars will be printed. The calendars will be available for $10 each starting in November with purchase available online, by phone or at the Humane Society and area retail locations. All proceeds from submissions, votes, sponsorships, and sales will benefit the programs and services of the St. Augustine Humane Society, including the spay, neuter and surgery clinic which is open every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The St. Augustine Humane Society Facebook page will post calendar and entry announcement and mini contests until the final week of the main contest, and gift certificates from the Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine will be awarded periodically to pet owners who gain new votes.
