Novelist Laura Lee Smith will present a step-by-step strategy for breaking into the publishing scene at the next meeting of the Florida Writers Association (FWA) Ponte Vedra group, to be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Ponte Vedra Beach public library.

Smith will inform guests of the keys to “Breaking In,” covering topics such as learning to handle rejection and securing acceptances in literary magazines. She will also discuss how to find the best market for writing, as well as how to strategize and track submissions and cultivate positive relationships with editors.

Smith’s 2013 debut novel, “Heart of Palm,” was named one of Oprah’s “Ten Titles to Pick Up Now.” Her short fiction has been published in several writing journals, among them, “The Best American Short Stories,” “New Stories from the South: The Year’s Best,” “New England Review,” “The Florida Review,” “Natural Bridge” and “Bayou.” She currently lives in St. Augustine and works as an advertising copywriter.
