High school football’s regular season is starting to wind down, but there was still plenty of action across St. Johns County on Friday, Oct. 24.
The Ponte Vedra Sharks defeated the IMG Academy Junior National Ascenders 46-7. The Sharks totaled 448 yards of offense. Junior Alex Winkles had a career best night for the Sharks totaling 148 yards on the ground, including a 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Sharks quarterback Cole Rosendahl completed 15 of his 23 passes which was good for 179 yards. The Sharks defense was led by senior linebacker Talan Babin who had 2.5 sacks on the night.
Ponte Vedra has now won five games in a row and will be away on Thursday, Oct. 30 to take on the Creekside Knights.
The Nease Panthers defeated the Tocoi Creek Toros 36-0. Panthers quarterback Aiden Phifer had a career night as he threw for 217 yards and five touchdowns. Phifer completed 88.9% of his passes. Nease’s Chase Phifer picked up 96 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Panthers’ current record is 7-2 and they will face off against the Beachside Barracudas on Oct. 30.
The Barracudas defeated the Orange Park Raiders 31-28. Beachside’s Vincent Galella rushed for 168 yards while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Beachside’s defense held Orange Park to 3.4 yards per carry. Beachside’s record is now 6-2 as they travel to take on the Panthers.
The Creekside Knights were off this past week, but they are getting ready to return to action at their home field against Ponte Vedra on Thursday, Oct. 30.
