Strong beginnings, rewarding endings to be focus of FWA Ponte Vedra Writers meeting

Novelists fret over their opening pages, writing and rewriting to ensure the reader is drawn into the story. But too often the ending tends to be an afterthought.

Award-winning author Vic DiGenti will share writing secrets in his presentation, “Start Strong and End Strong: Crafting Compelling Beginnings and Endings,” at the next meeting of the Florida Writers Association’s Ponte Vedra Writers on Saturday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

DiGenti will reveal why the opening and closing pages are so important in an interactive session designed to beef up lethargic beginnings and eliminate feeble endings. These are among the many things writers will learn:

■ Nine things the opening pages should accomplish

■ How to draft a great opening line

■ What the ending must accomplish

DiGenti is executive vice president of the Florida Writers Association, and faculty chair for the 2018 Florida Writers Conference. He’s the award-winning author of six novels, multiple short stories and five biographies.

The Ponte Vedra Writers group is part of the Florida Writers Association, a statewide, nonprofit organization with over 1,500 members dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers in any genre. The May 26 meeting is open to members and non-members. For information on FWA, visit www.floridawriters.net.
