The Ponte Vedra girls lacrosse team met its goal of making the Final Four,
but fell short of the state championship game, falling 18-8 to Lake Highland Prep on Friday, May 7, in Kissimmee.

The Lady Sharks (174) rushed out to an early lead before the Highlanders rallied.

“It’s really hard to end such a successful season on a loss,” coach Jen Conway said. “I know the team was down about that, but we had our banquet (Monday night), and I just reminded them how fun and how special our season was. We went about as far as you possibly could.”

Lake Highland Prep came into the game undefeated and was the defending state champion. The Highlanders lost 11-9 to American Heritage in the state final.

“We had the chance to play a really seasoned experienced team, so that kind of helps them going forward,” Conway said.

Another loss for the Sharks will be the nine seniors on the team who are graduating, but Conway said they’ve left a lasting impression with the players who are left.

“I think the excitement of this season has sparked the younger players, so we'll use that as a motivation to prepare and train to get there again,” Conway said.
