Sunset Rotary Club awards scholarships

The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach Sunset recently awarded scholarships to two local students as part of its “Service Above Self” scholarship program. Each student received $1,000 towards their college education.

Divya Mahesh was chosen as the 2016 Service Above Self scholarship recipient for Allen D. Nease High School. Mahesh was recognized for achieving a high level of academic success: In addition to ranking number one in her class and maintaining a 4.7 GPA, she is an International Baccalaureate student, an AP scholar with Distinction and a 2016 National Merit Finalist. She is also involved in community service activities: Mahesh was the founder of the FAME (Friends Aiding Medically Everywhere) organization, which partners with local doctors to establish a free monthly clinic for the homeless. She was also the president of the Fight Against Hunger Club and the founder of the Nease High School Food Pantry and Closet, and has logged 300 volunteer 300 service hours at the Sulzbacher Center, St. Francis House, Taylor home for seniors and Mayo Clinic.

Mahesh is treasurer of the National Honor Society and a member of the Mu Alpha Theta

Math Honor Society and the Hispanic Honor Society. She is the daughter of Mahesh Krishnamurthy and Akila Mahesh of St. Augustine.

Tess Reiman was chosen as the scholarship recipient for Ponte Vedra High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.4 GPA, Reiman is the founder of the national award-winning organization Project Storybook and Project Play, which provide books and play equipment for children living in Habitat for Humanity homes. Reiman is also the founder and president of the Ponte Vedra High School Sharks and Minnows club, which mentors elementary school children at the Rhoda Martin Cultural Heritage Center.

A three-year varsity athlete with the girls lacrosse team and a varsity letter athlete with the swim team, Reiman is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, the English Honor Society, Rho Kappa History Society, the Science Honor Society, the Hispanic Honor Society and a multiple Academic Excellence Award winner. She is one of six founding commissioners of the Ponte Vedra High Link Crew, and has represented PVHS as a Hugh O’Brian (HOBY) youth leadership ambassador and a delegate to Youth Leadership Jacksonville. She is the daughter of Dan and Brette Reiman of Ponte Vedra Beach.
