Potter’s Wax Museum recently opened its Taylor Swift exhibit, which is the first addition to the wax figure collection in two years.
Dave Chatterton, general manager of Old Town Trolley Tours, said there is an exciting photo contest going on from now until Nov. 30. To enter, museum visitors can take a photo with the new Taylor Swift wax figure while dressed up as their favorite era from one of the singer’s 12 original studio albums.
The photo can then be uploaded on the website to be judged. The contest winners will be announced during the first week of December through the email provided when entering.
Chatterton said the grand prize will include a Taylor Swift-themed spa package for four at Poseidon Spa at the Casa Monica resort and spa, a professional photography session with photographer Ed Taylor and a high tea experience at Modern Rose. Second and third place winners will receive exclusive VIP merchandise and annual passes to Potter’s Wax Museum.
While the museum primarily features historical figures who helped shape America, Chatterton said that Taylor Swift’s achievements and the joy and inspiration she brings to her fans earned her a spot in the collection.
The wax museum’s story is inspirational as well. Chatterton said that in 1948, George Leonard Potter opened the first wax museum in America. It was called Potter’s International Hall of Fame. It began with more than 200 wax figures of men and women who left a positive impact and shaped our nation’s history.
In the 1970s it was recognized as the second largest wax museum in the world. Eventually, it was sold to Historic Tours of America and became the beloved museum that it is today.
The museum’s extensive collection of wax figures includes politicians, presidents, inventors, entertainers, writers, royals and more. Many of the figures even trace back to the original collection. Chatterton added that many of the figures are made at the museum in view of the guests so they can see the figures come to life. Various sculpting instruments, sewing tools and paints and mediums are used, as well as prosthetic eyes, teeth and hair.
Potter’s Wax Museum is full of history and has a lot to offer guests.
“Our goal is to spark curiosity and a sense of wonder in every guest, encouraging them to leave with a deeper understanding of the powerful people, moments and ideas that helped build this great nation,” Chatterton said.
