A ground-breaking ceremony was held Jan. 16 for a new Hyatt Place and a new Holiday Inn Express at the Vilano Beach Town Center.

The opening of the Hyatt Place is scheduled for 2020 and will be designed in the Art Deco style, coinciding with the architecture of the Town Center. The Holiday Inn Express is planned to open in late 2019 and will feature a Florida Vernacular style known for its wood frames and porches. The hotels will include mixed-use retail shops and restaurants for the public and other amenities for large and small conferences and special events.

According to Vilano Beach Main Street, the construction of the hotels is expected to support several new jobs during the building process. In addition, it’s expected that the hotels will generate several ongoing jobs in support of the 170 new hotel rooms.

Project Manager Farid Ashdji was honored at the ground-breaking event, which was attended by local dignitaries. The ceremony took place after several years of planning, design and permitting for the pedestrian-friendly waterfront location.

At the conclusion of the event, Vivian Browning, president of Vilano Beach Main Street, told attendees to, “tell their friends — Vilano is on the map!”
