United Way asks businesses to help working families

United Way of St. Johns & Putnam Counties is inviting local businesses to participate in Shop Local. Support Local Families., a community-wide campaign taking place Nov. 16-22 to support local working families struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living.

Today, one in three families in St. Johns County and one in two families in Putnam County are struggling to make ends meet. The campaign gives local businesses and their customers an easy way to come together and help their neighbors.

Businesses can participate in whatever way works best for them — donating a percentage of sales, featuring a special give-back product, hosting a give-back night or dedicating proceeds from a specific day or promotion.

“There are thousands of families in our community working hard, doing everything they can to provide for their families and still struggling to make ends meet,” said Carl F. Cricco III, president and CEO of United Way of St. Johns & Putnam Counties. “This is an opportunity for our entire community to come together and lift up our neighbors. There’s no one-size-fits-all way for a business to participate; we want them to choose what works for them and join us in making a difference for local families. Our goal is to drive enough promotion and new customers that they can give back and still come out ahead.”

United Way will promote the campaign and participating businesses through social media, email, local media outreach and other community marketing efforts. Restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, salons, retailers, attractions and other consumer-facing businesses throughout St. Johns and Putnam counties are encouraged to participate.
