A candlelight vigil will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Jan. 6, at the Castillo de San Marcos National Park in St. Augustine recalling the one year anniversary since a group of people launched an attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The vigil, organized by Blue Guardians of Democracy, will feature speakers from the League of Women Voters, the St. Augustine Black Caucus and other organizations. Alexandra Richman will lead in singing songs. There will also be a moment of silence to reflect on the attack.

The observance is part of the nationwide day of remembrance and action. Organizers are advocating passage of several pieces of legislation, including the Freedom to Vote Act, the Protecting Our Democracy Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, as well as statehood for the District of Columbia.

The vigil will be on the west lawn of the Castillo at 1 S. Castillo Drive.
