Guided Cultural and Historical Hike

On the first Saturday of every month from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., visitors can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula during a guided cultural hike. Find out about the peninsula’s 5,000 years of human history, including how native peoples used estuarine resources, what European plantation life was like and current efforts to learn about and save these resources. Hikers will meet at the GTM Research Reserve’s Trailhead Pavilion located west of the Guana Dam. Wear comfortable closed toe shoes. There is a $3 per vehicle parking fee. Cummer Museum Pokemon Go event

Celebrate the end of Summer Vacation with the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens for a Back to School Bash with a Pokémon theme. There are seven Pokéstops on the museum campus that will be provided with lures from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. This event is free and open to the public thanks to Weaver First Saturday Free for All and the Blue Star Museum Program. The museum is located at 829 Riverside Ave, Jacksonville.

‘Touch-A-Truck’

Cox Media Group Jacksonville and the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville, Inc. (JaxPAL) are offering Jacksonville families the rare opportunity to climb all over trucks and vehicles that are usually off-limits. At “Touch-A-Truck,” unique vehicles will be on-site for kids to sit in, climb on and take photos with including big rigs, fire and rescue trucks, police vehicles, construction equipment, and others plus Sky Action News Jax, Jacksonville’s only news helicopter. Plus, bounce houses, a free photo booth, games, prizes and much more. The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jacksonville Automotive and Motorcycle Museum, 9501 Arlington Expressway, Jacksonville. Admission to “Touch-A-Truck” is free. Guests are requested to bring school supply items to be donated to Police Athletic League of Jacksonville, Inc. (JaxPAL). Items needed include notebooks to paper, pencils and markers and other school supplies. Families of children with special needs and sensitive ears are invited to avoid the noise to attend the “Horn-Free Hour” from 10 to 11 a.m. - all the fun of “Touch-A-Truck,” without loud music, horns and sirens. Beaches Health Jam

The inaugural Beaches Health Jam, a free community event, will be held Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 3 p.m. Guests will be able to have free health screenings; sample healthy recipes; participate in line dancing, Pilates and Tai Chi demonstrations; and play games, among other health-based activities. The afternoon will be capped off by the Beaches’ biggest “Wobble” dance event at 5:30 p.m. , followed by a kickball tournament at 6 p.m. The Beaches Health Jam will be held at Carver Center, 777 5th St. S., Jacksonville Beach.

Back to School with BEAM

BEAM will provide school supplies and clothing for pre-school to high school students in the beaches area who need help getting ready for a new school year Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at Beach United Methodist Church, 325 7th Ave. N., Jacksonville Beach. Community Blood Drive

The St. Augustine Amphitheatre will be hosting a community blood drive Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 8 a.m. OneBlood’s Big Red Bus will be in the main parking lot during the Old City Farmers Market until 1 p.m. Every hour, the amphitheatre will give away a pair of tickets to one of the amphitheatre’s upcoming shows.
