Young Marines honored at weekly drill

Posted

Two Atlantic Coast Young Marines were recently honored at their weekly drill with generous bonuses donated by the We Can Be Heroes Foundation volunteers.

Young Marines Kevon Turpin and Joshua Roman stepped up to work part-time and summers to help their families’ loss of income due to the pandemic. Both Young Marines maintained good attitudes, juggled schoolwork taught virtually, achieved good school grades and remained dedicated to the Atlantic Coast Young Marines.

Kevon received the Young Marines Honor Graduate from his recruit class and was recently inducted in the National Junior Honor Society at his school.

Both Young Marines were overwhelmed with their bonuses and expressed gratitude to donors.

Commander Vernon of the Atlantic Coast Young Marines expressed appreciation for the assistance provided to the Young Marines in-need.

Bill Karandos, USMC Vietnam War veteran, held a Q&A for the Young Marines on the honor of serving in the Marines. All the Young Marines expressed the traditional "welcome home" as they shook Karandos' hand.

“I felt so honored to be with these Young Marines,” Karandos said, “Vets who fear being forgotten don’t need to worry here; our Jacksonville Young Marines always remember vets.”
