Beaches Fine Arts Series will begin its 51st season with Trio Virado at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Jacksonville Beach. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and seating is first come, first served. A reception will follow the concert featuring the pottery of Tim Bullard.
Trio Virado
Trio Virado is a collaboration of three of today’s most distinguished artists on flute, viola and guitar. Flutist Amy Porter, violist Jaime Amador and guitarist João Luiz are widely sought-after as individual artists for their musical performances on recordings and the concert stage.
A Juilliard School graduate, Porter pursued further studies at the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg. She plays a 14K white gold flute with rose gold engraved keys made for her by the Wm. S. Haynes Co.
She has been praised by critics for her exceptional musical talent and passion for scholarship. She is a winner of the Kobe and Paris/Ville d’Avry international flute competitions.
Amador has appeared in prestigious venues across the United States and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and the Kurhaus of Baden-Baden. He has collaborated with such distinguished musicians as Chick Corea, Ida Kavafian, Fred Sherry, Emanuel Borok and Misha Dichter. His instrument is a Ryan Soltis 2010 viola.
A member of the critically acclaimed Brasil Guitar Duo, Luiz has performed extensively in the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America, including a landmark 2014 concert in Cuba featuring the world premiere of Leo Brouwer’s quartet El arco y la lira, written for the duo and cellists Yo-Yo Ma and Carlos Prieto. Luiz co-founded Trio Virado in 2011 with flutist Amy Porter and violist Juan-Miguel Hernandez to promote contemporary Latin American chamber music.
Aaron Diehl Trio
The Aaron Diehl Trio performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Jacksonville Beach. A visual art exhibit by Christianna Louise White Fletcher follows at the post-concert reception.
Pianist-composer Diehl earned his bachelor’s degree in music in jazz studies at the Juilliard School. His most recent release on Mack Avenue, “The Vagabond,” reveals his breadth and The New York Times called him “a composer worth watching.”
Bassist David Wong graduated from the Juilliard School in classical music. He has performed in many of the major concert halls and jazz clubs throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
Percussionist Aaron Kimmel holds a bachelor of music degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Kenny Washington and Billy Drummond, and he is now a freelance drummer living in New York City.
