Cancellation culture comes to roofing

Posted

In a time of economic ambiguity our world is spinning faster, leaving many of us with uncertainty of which assets should be priority. As homeowners, we can all guarantee that sitting atop that list is our home, and atop every home is the roof. Considering protection of our home and assets is essential, making home insurance the pinnacle. We’ve all had those worrisome thoughts; what if our house catches fire, appliances fail (especially A/C in these hot summer days), devastating consequences of hurricanes and other acts of nature that are out of our control.

Which leads to an internal examination of the strength or standing of our insurance policies and the integrity of the components that protect our irreplaceable investments under our roof.

Raising the questions: Is my roof in good condition? Whom can I trust to give me an honest assessment? How old is my roof?

If you are not asking these questions, we can assure that your insurance carrier is. In 2021 and 2022 the Florida Senate has weighed in heavily on roofing/property insurance debates passing concurrent bills (Senate Bill 76 in 2021 and Senate Bills 4D, and 2D 2022), which have added further regulations and policies that have affected coverages on roofing statewide. As a result, we have seen and heard of a massive offloading of policies from insurance carriers, and if your roof is older than 10 years old you can be assured that your policy is being reviewed. Many have received a notice of cancellation for coverage on their roof, which is often accompanied with a demand to replace the roof in order to reinstate the policy.

What’s next? Seeking an honest assessment to make the most informed and prudent decision. When searching for a roofing contractor, many filter their options by selecting the one that exhibits the best online façade often to be met with a salesman holding a hefty quote to replace their entire roof.

Our experience with this mass cancellation thus far is that not every cancelled roof needs to be replaced. Elo Roofing offers roof tune-ups, maintenance, repairs and roof replacements to fit the true needs of your roof. We want to make clear that we are not insurance brokers, adjusters or agents in any way, and we are not here to advise on policy language or coverages; our arena is roofing and construction.
