Jacksonville Armada FC owner Robert Palmer announced Monday that he will donate 100 percent of the revenue from the team’s online ticket sales this week to the Red Cross to assist with relief efforts for those devastated by Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
Tickets purchased online between Aug. 28 and Sept. 2 for any Armada FC home match through the end of the season will go toward hurricane relief efforts. Armada FC’s next home match is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 against Indy Eleven.
"My purchase of a professional sports team was never about profits,” Palmer said. “It was about creating a vehicle for positive change in our society. We’re proud to stand with those affected by the storm in Houston and the surrounding areas.”
Palmer’s personal experience with hurricanes contributed to his desire to help those struggling in Texas.
“I was personally affected by the three hurricanes that crossed Polk County, Florida in 2004,” he said. “My family in Southern Mississippi and Louisiana were devastated by Katrina in 2005. Healing these kinds of wounds takes time, and I wanted to do my part to help.”
Palmer took to social media to encourage other Florida businesses to follow his example.
“I challenge other business owners to take similar action to support those affected in Texas,” he wrote. “As Floridians, we know too well the devastation a hurricane (and flooding) of this magnitude can cause.”
