Jack Furness, a Landrum Middle School student and Ponte Vedra Beach resident, recently took home first place in the King Buster 400 Brian Dingman Memorial Junior Angler Tournament.

“It was the best day of my life,” said Furness, who landed a 34.3-pound kingfish off the coast of Mayport marina to win the event on June 25.

Due to his victory, the middle schooler is now the proud owner of a new 15-foot, 25 horsepower Carolina Skiff fishing boat that is scheduled to arrive at his house next week. Furness competed against more than 40 other participants in the tournament. Rick Ryals and Roger Walker captained his boat.
