Library hosts ‘Teen Coffeehouse’

A harpist, a saxophonist, vocalists, poets and a magician were just a few of the acts that participated in the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library’s recent Teen Coffeehouse.

Held April 26 in conjunction with National Poetry Month, the event attracted numerous local teens ages 13 to 18 to share their talents in an open mic format.

“It was one of those experiences in 14 years of being a youth services librarian that you’re so glad it happened – teens getting to share exactly who they are and what “lights them up” in a generous and welcoming atmosphere complete with hugs, high fives, and encouragement,” said librarian Anne Crawford. “Kudos go to our ‘volunteen Zeryn, who came up with this brilliant idea.”

Crawford also credited Youth Services Assistant Suzanne Egeln with organizing the event. So successful was the coffeehouse, she added, that the library is already planning to host another Teen Coffeehouse Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The event is open to vocalists, musicians, spoken word artists, rappers and other entertainers.
