Jacksonville running store 1st Place Sports will host a three-race event named The Tour de Pain Aug. 11-12 at various locations throughout Jacksonville.

About 1,200 runners are expected to participate in the race series, which started in 1992. The Tour de Pain tests each runner's ability to complete three different races in a twenty-four-hour period. Each participant's total time for the events will be added together to determine their place in the Tour de Pain.

The first race of the series will be a four-mile beach run on Friday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Beach Seawalk Pavilion on 200 1st Street North. The second race, starting at 7 a.m. on Aug. 12, is a 5K beginning at 1st Place Sports at 3931 Baymeadows Road on a certified USA Track and Field course.

The third race will take place later that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at The Jacksonville Landing on 2 West Independent Drive.

Runners can register online at www.1stplacesports.com/races/tdp/ and choose just one race or all of them. The entrance fee for the race series is $65 through July 31 and $75 after Aug. 1. Prices for individual races are $30 through July 31 and $35 after Aug. 1.

Participants will receive a moisture-wicking tank top in their registration packet. Finisher medals will be awarded to those who complete all three events at the finish line of the final race based on their total time. Runners can take part in the post-race celebration and awards ceremony held at Hemming Plaza where free food, Gatorade and beer (for runners aged 21 and up) will be provided.

1st Place Sports is a retail store franchise that sells shoes, apparel and accessories for runners. It also hosts running events, such as the annual Winter Beach Run and the Gate River Run, in which 200 to 18,000 participants raise a quarter of a million dollars for charity each year.
