The latest storm news in St. Johns County

The National Hurricane Center has issued a tropical storm warning and a storm surge warning for St. Johns County. A flood watch is also in effect.

(Please note: The following information refers to Wednesday, Nov. 9, Thursday, Nov. 10, and Friday, Nov. 11, 2022.)

Flagler Health+

Flagler Health+ locations, including Flagler Hospital, will remain open to serve the community. They will operate during regular business hours on Wednesday and Friday. Most locations and services will operate as usual on Thursday, with some modifications.

These plans may be revised.

  • Flagler Hospital – The hospital will remain open 24 hours a day and visitation hours will remain 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Outpatient surgeries and elective procedures – All cases will continue as scheduled at Flagler Hospital and Flagler Surgery Center.
  • Imaging – Flagler Imaging Center on the Flagler Hospital campus will continue regular business hours on Thursday, opening at 7:30 am. Imaging services at the MuraBella and Nocatee locations will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
  • Laboratories – All Flagler Health+ Lab locations (Flagler Hospital, State Road 312, MuraBella) will delay opening until 8 a.m. on Thursday.
  • Ambulatory Offices — Flagler Health+ ambulatory offices (Health Villages, Primary Care, Orthopedic Specialists, etc.) will remain open for regular business hours for the remainder of the week. Some locations may need to consolidate their practices, and patients will be notified directly of any changes to their appointments.
  • Care Fast+ Urgent Care, Home Health, Behavioral Health – Operations remain business as usual.

Catholic Schools

Catholic schools in the Diocese of St. Augustine will be closed Thursday with faculty and students returning to classes on Monday.

The Diocese of St. Augustine encompasses 17 counties of Northeast and North Central Florida. The diocese has 38 schools in the following counties of the diocese: Alachua, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Flagler, Nassau and St. Johns.

MOCA Jacksonville

MOCA Jacksonville, 333 N. Laura St., will be closed beginning Thursday due to the impending storm. The museum will also be closed on Friday for Veteran’s Day. It is anticipated that the museum will resume regular hours on Saturday for VyStar Free Saturdays at MOCA.

Reopening will depend on a post-storm evaluation of potential damage. For the safety of our visitors, staff and the artwork, MOCA will continue to evaluate conditions and open as soon as reasonably possible. All programs and events are cancelled until assessments can be completed after the storm has passed.

Clerk’s Office

The St. Johns County Clerk of Court and Comptroller offices will remain closed on Thursday due to predicted impacts from Tropical Storm Nicole. As previously scheduled, the offices will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

What to expect

  • Rainfall predictions of 2-4 inches in St. Johns County, more further south
  • Strong northeasterly winds are expected to continue, with frequent tropical storm-force wind gusts
  • Moderate to major flooding is expected along the coast during high tide on Thursday morning, with levels of at least one foot above what Ian produced, with major flooding possible along the St. Johns River
  • An increased potential for tornadoes beginning overnight along the coast, then spreading inland Thursday afternoon
  • Destructive beach erosion along the coast, with breakers of 10 to 15 feet through Thursday night. Very dangerous marine conditions will continue throughout the coastal waters through Friday with waves up to 15-25 feet offshore.
  • Rip currents will be very likely

 

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9

  • The Bridge of Lions is closed to vessel traffic until further notice.
  • A1A South just north of Marineland and King Street at U.S. 1 is closed due to flooding.
  • Intermitted road/lane closures along the coast and in other low-lying areas can be expected throughout the duration of the event.
  • Traffic signals prone to flooding in the city limits will be placed into flashing mode
  • Florida Department of Health St. Johns County closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They will reopen on Monday
  • Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be closed Thursday and Friday.
  • Johns County Council on Aging facilities and senior centers closed Thursday and Friday. They will reopen on Monday.
  • Johns County Council on Aging Sunshine Bus service is suspended for Thursday. Service is expected to return to normal operations on Friday.
  • All St. Johns County Parks & Recreation parks and facilities will be closed through Thursday
  • Parks and facilities will reopen when safety inspections have been completed and weather conditions allow.

The following events have been canceled or rescheduled

  • The Joe Satriani concert scheduled for Wednesday at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has been postponed.
  • The Adam Sandler show scheduled for Thursday at The St. Augustine Amphitheater is rescheduled for Friday.
  • The Fortunate Youth concert scheduled for Thursday at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall is rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15
  • Castillo de San Marcos & Fort Matanzas National Monument are currently closed.

Government Offices

With the exception of emergency service employees responding to Tropical Storm Nicole, all offices and departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will be closed through Thursday. Government offices are closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. The same closures also apply to the government offices of the City of St. Augustine. The St. Augustine Municipal Marina is currently closed and will reopen once weather conditions allow. City of St. Augustine Beach government offices will close Thursday and Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Public Library System

All St. Johns County libraries, bookmobiles and book drops will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Libraries are closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. Operational decisions beyond Friday will be determined based on weather conditions. Due dates will be extended and fines will not be incurred during the closure.

Parks And Beach Services

All St. Johns County Parks & Recreation parks and facilities will be closed Wednesday and Thursday until the duration of the weather event. This includes but is not limited to athletic playing fields, passive parks, boat ramps, playgrounds, fishing piers and the St. Johns County Golf Course. Beachfront parks and walkovers will also be closed during this time. Parks and facilities will reopen when safety inspections have been completed and weather conditions allow. Beach driving on all St. Johns County beaches is currently restricted.

Schools

St. Johns County Schools and district offices will close on Thursday and Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Sunshine Bus Service
