St. Johns Golf Club celebrates 30th anniversary

St. Johns Golf Club, a county-owned and operated golf course located in Elkton, will celebrate its 30-year anniversary on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 with a New Year’s Day Shootout Tournament.

Established in 1989, SJGC offers an 18-hole championship layout with a grass tee driving range, private instruction area for individual and group instruction, a two-tiered chipping green and a separate well-manicured putting green.

“When the course first opened, I remember driving down a dirt road to get to the club house,” said Wes Tucker, Director of Golf at St. Johns Golf Club, who has worked at the course since it opened. “There weren’t any homes bordering the golf course, and it wasn’t unheard of to run into wildlife, including an early sighting of a Florida panther. There have been many changes over the past three decades.”

From men’s and women’s associations and private and group instruction to monthly tournaments, corporate events and a full-service pro shop with club repair, St. Johns Golf Club looks forward to serving the community for another 30 years and beyond.

The New Year’s Day Shootout Tournament on Jan. 1 will kick off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The format is two-person teams with gross and net aggregate scores. Entry is $40 per player for nonmembers and $30 per play for SJGC members. Sign up today by sending player names, handicaps and email addresses to Tommy Aycock at taycock@sjcfl.us or calling the pro shop at (904) 209-0350.
