With Mother’s Day this weekend, Underwood Jewelers did its part to help the women in the local community give back by partnering with the Ponte Vedra Women’s Club to host trunk show fundraiser April 28.

The trunk show featured fine jewelry by Penny Preville and a portion of the proceeds will go toward the charitable organizations that the club supports.

The partnership between the club and the jeweler is nothing new, as it has been going on for years to the point where the event has become the club’s marquee fundraiser, and one that members and residents alike look forward to annually.

Several community members attended the event, which filled the Underwood Jewelers Ponte Vedra Beach location nicely and created a very festive atmosphere full of laughter and plenty of sparkling jewelry.

The club usually supports about four or five nonprofits at a time, all of which focus on serving women and children in need across St. Johns County and the Beaches.

The nonprofits are selected through a voting process every two years, expect for the club’s legacy charity which remains the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.

“The club is over 50 years old and started in 1970, and we will always have that charity to support,” Gibaldi said.

BEAM, the Betty Griffin Center and Hugs Across the County are some of the nonprofits supported by the club.

“The cool thing about the club is that it is a social nonprofit club,” Gibaldi said. “Our mantra is all about connecting women and our community for a cause.”

Monthly meetings are held by the club at various venues that rotate with some being during the day for lunch and others at night for dinner.

According to Gibaldi, having differing meetings times is done with every member in mind, so that meetings can be attended regardless of a person’s life situation.

“A lot of the women that join the club are new to the area, or they’ve had a life change, such as kids going away to school or being newly retired,” Gibaldi said. “We have members from their late 20s to late 70s.”

Well-oiled Events catered the trunk show, which featured an array of hors d’oeuvres that were served to the guests throughout the night.
