Award-winning children’s book author Hena Khan spent Wednesday, Feb. 6 on the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus, sharing her works with students and inspiring them to share their own stories.

During her presentation to students, Khan helped them understand Muslim customs and traditions and shared how her childhood experiences influenced her books. Khan shared visual images to sharpen students’ appreciation and awareness of Muslim practices while also building empathy for the cultural experiences of others. Students engaged Khan with many questions about the themes of her books and the writing and publishing process.

Khan’s middle grade novel, “Amina’s Voice,” was named a Best Book of 2017 by Kirkus, NPR, the Washington Post and others. She is the author of “Zyad Saleem: Chasing the Dream,” “Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns,” “Crescent Moons and Pointed Minarets,” “Under my Hijab” and many others, including a special book she wrote about famous literary monkey, Curious George, called “It’s Ramadan, Curious George.”
