Council on Aging (COA) has announced the following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in October. Most activities are weekly and will begin on Oct. 1. Note: The center will be closed Oct. 19 through Nov. 2. Those with questions may call the center at 904-209-3659. - Lunch — Tuesdays: Two weeks starting Tuesday, Oct. 6, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance and the required fee is $5 per meal, due upon arrival.
- Lunch — Thursdays: Three weeks starting Thursday, Oct. 1, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance and the required fee is $5 per meal, due upon arrival.
- Duplicate Bridge: Three weeks on Fridays, starting Oct. 2, from noon to 3 p.m. Required fee is $2 per person, per Friday. You must have a partner and experience to play.
- Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all levels to participate or learn. Three weeks on Fridays, starting Oct. 2 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee required is $6.25 per class.
- Hisshin Sumi-e Painting Class: Traditional East Asian brush painting. This class meets the second Thursday of every month (Oct. 8), from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fee required is $3 per person.
- Open Painting: Two weeks on Wednesdays, starting Oct. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No fee is required. Bring your own supplies.
- Caregiver Support Group (free program): The group is open to all adult caregivers; meets on the first Wednesday of each month. Next date is Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: Two weeks starting Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
- Chair Exercise — Thursdays: Three weeks starting Thursday, Oct. 1, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
- Tai Chi (beginner) w/Dennis Sheils: Three Thursdays, starting Oct. 1, from 10 to 11 a.m.
- Canasta — Tuesdays: Two weeks starting Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Canasta — Thursdays: Three weeks starting Thursday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Mexican Train Dominoes: Two weeks on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

- Let’s Play Board Games: Rummikub, Scrabble, Yahtzee, cards and more! Enjoy socializing and making new friends while participating in some friendly competition. Two weeks on Wednesdays, starting Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Individual Rotation Duplicate Bridge (experienced): Two weeks on Wednesdays, starting Oct. 7, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Required fee is $2 per person.
- Wii Bowling: Available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during open hours.
- Computer Room: Available Tuesdays through Fridays during open hours; general assistance available.
- Ballroom Basics: Join volunteer Scott Adkins who will show you the basic steps of ballroom dance (waltz, foxtrot, rumba). No partner is needed. However, comfortable shoes are a must (leather soles are best). Ballroom Dance has been proven to be one of the best activities to promote brain health. Two weeks on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m.
- Line Dance: Scott Adkins continues the fun with the launch of weekly line dance! Designed for all skill levels, this new program breaks down steps into easy-to-learn movements so you can feel more confident and join in on the dance floor fun. What better way to get your exercise in. Two weeks on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon.
- Piano Performance: Back by popular demand; 10-year-old Oscar Smith will amaze you as he “tickles the ivories” to Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. His dream is to one day perform at Carnegie Hall, so you may witness history in the making at The PLAYERS center on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to noon.
- Keeping Healthy in the Colder Months: The team at Starling of Ponte Vedra will offer helpful tips on staying healthy through the upcoming temperature changes. Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon.
- Introduction to Basic Watercolor: This free lesson is for beginning painters to discover and enjoy the process of how watercolor can become a path to relaxation and mindfulness. Master Artist Ellen Diamond reminds us there are no mistakes, only beautiful surprises! - Senior Living & Care Options: This presentation will be hosted by Bonnie Parker, senior care adviser and certified dementia practitioner with Senior Care Authority. - Autumn Carnival: Enjoy two fun hours of low-impact carnival games, complete with prizes and traditional autumn treats! Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Chair Volleyball: Join CarePlus representative Nelson Correa for an hour of fun, fitness and friendly competition! No experience necessary and everyone is encouraged to play on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to noon.
