As part of their continued focus on the continent of South America, students at the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus had the opportunity to communicate via Skype with a couple traveling the continent on Oct. 23.
Called “The Great Untold EDU,” the program is an outreach of two former Semester-at-Sea students of PVB Lower School Head Peggy Campbell-Rush, who was a Semester-at-sea dean several years ago. The pair — Valerie and Bryce — is on a yearlong exploration of Central and South America, traveling primarily by converted van. They are currently in Peru, but will also be in some of the more remote regions of the continent, including the Galapagos Islands. Connecting with students via Skype, the travelers aim to make global learning interactive, personal and in real-time.
First graders sat in the Ponte Vedra Beach Campus Library to listen and ask questions. PVB Teacher-Librarian Christina Karvounis said she coordinated the activity through the students’ library class. First-grade students will continue to Skype with their traveling friends throughout the school year. First graders on the Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus also are expected to make periodic visits with “The Great Untold EDU.”
