Broadway Bound theatre camp starts July 7

Musical Theatre Ponte Vedra (MTPV), now in its third year, is offering its Broadway Bound kids summer theatre camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 7-10 in the Ponte Vedra High School auditorium.

The camp is led by husband and wife team Jason and Katie Nettle, both professional actors known locally for their many appearances on the stage of the Alhambra Theatre & Dining. Choreographers with years of training and studio work will also teach.

The Nettles, a Jacksonville/Ponte Vedra family, want to bring as much theatre and performing arts as possible to the community.

High school students from Jason Nettle’s theatre department will volunteer to help and act as chaperones.

The camp is open to kids in kindergarten through eighth grade and no auditions are required. All they have to do is sign up. There is no limit to the number of students who will be accepted to participate.

“We introduce them to: how to dance, how to sing, how to act, how to present themselves on stage, certain rules they should follow when on stage and, mostly, how to have a lot of fun!” said Jason Nettle, who has led the Ponte Vedra High School Theatre Department for the past 10 years.

The campers will learn production numbers that will be familiar to their families. At the end of the four days, they will stage a showcase.

The cost to sign up is $250 per student, though there is a discount for siblings who also want to participate. To learn more or to register, go to MTPV.org.
