Fall is a busy time of year for SAFE, a pet rescue dedicated to saving animals from euthanasia. They have been rescuing animals since the nonprofit began in 2008 and are always looking for new ways to provide care for more pets in need. To date, SAFE has rescued more than 30,000 pets. Participating in their upcoming fundraisers is a fun way to help out.
The Gifted Cork & Gourmet will host their 18th Annual SAFE Pet Rescue Wine/ Food Tasting Fundraiser in St. Augustine at 64 Hypolita St. on Nov. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening is a lot of fun with delicious food and drinks from some of the top local restaurants. Best of all, the proceeds from ticket sales and the live auction go to SAFE. This fan-favorite event sells out quickly. To purchase your tickets now, call the Gifted Cork at 904-810-1083.
SAFE’s 2027 Happy Tails Calendar fundraiser is currently underway. These calendars are adorable and make excellent gifts for the holiday season. Each month features photos from SAFE pets and all of the proceeds go toward caring for pets while they are waiting for their forever homes. Calendars are available at all SAFE Pet Rescue locations and adoption events.
SAFE’s ever-popular blue “Be groovy, adopt a SAFE pet,” T-shirt is back in stock. All of the proceeds from the shirt will go to supporting pets as well.
On Halloween, Pet Supermarket on 880 A1A North, will host Howling Halloween Dog Adoption Event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with all proceeds benefitting SAFE. The adoption event will be a fun afternoon with a bake sale hosted by SAFE Pet Rescue Club at PV High School, photo opportunities with Skelly the Skeleton and a pet costume contest at 1 p.m. Donations of dog food, treats, cleaning supplies and other pet care items are always appreciated.
While monetary and supply donations are always gratefully accepted, the gift of time is very valuable as well. Since SAFE is run entirely by volunteers, more smiling faces are needed to help with the increasing need for pet care.
If you love spending time outdoors and meeting new friends, walking dogs and helping them socialize might be the perfect task for you. Maybe you’re more of a cat person. If so, consider volunteering to play with the cats in the cattery. If you’re a fan of being on the go and enjoy a good drive, helping to transport pets might be your speed. Perhaps you love retail therapy; SAFE’s resale store is full of unique treasures and is in need of volunteers. If you’re a planner, consider helping out with adoption and fundraising events.
Fostering a pet is yet another way to get involved. By fostering, you’re giving a pet loving care while making more space at SAFE’s shelter for other pets in need of a comfortable place to stay.
