Floyd Miller, a World War II Navy veteran and former newspaper photographer for Navy News Guam, sits with Darlene Tye at the veterans luncheon hosted by The PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra Beach on Nov. 10. With experience working for a newspaper in high school in Danville, Ill., Miller said the Navy appreciated his journalistic background. He said his job was to meet the daily airplane and make sure the admiral got his picture on the front page of Navy News Guam.

Joseph D’Aloia, a World War II Marine veteran in the South Pacific theatre, enjoys lunch with Joanne Woosley. D’Aloia’s two brothers served in the Army, with another brother serving in the Navy. Calling it a patriotic time, he said they all volunteered to serve the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

World War II Army Veteran Nelson Johnson served in multiple locations across Europe, including Omaha Beach in France, the Belgian town of Bastogne to support troops in the Battle of the Bulge, and the Elbe River in Central Europe to join forces with the Russians.
The PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra Beach hosted a veterans luncheon Nov. 10. The event included patriotic music and entertainment followed by a barbecue lunch. Veterans from different branches of the military and wars throughout history attended.
