The St. Johns County Council on Aging raised more than $19,000 at its sixth annual Christmas on the River fundraiser.

Held at the River House in St. Augustine Nov. 20, the event benefited the organization’s Care Connection program, a volunteer-based initiative designed to help independent elders meet and manage the challenges of everyday life. The program’s services range from assistance with financial planning and home repairs to help with yard and lawn maintenance and installation of assistive safety devices.

“We’re trying to keep people in their homes,” said COA Executive Director Becky Yanni. “It’s dear to my heart because it’s such a community effort.”

Christmas on the River featured an array of wreaths from the Camellia Garden Club, a wine tasting with Vino Del Grotto and an auction of various items from local businesses that benefited the Council on Aging.
