The Cypress Village community is celebrating one of their own. Joan Fenton has been a resident alongside her husband Bill since 2020. She was recently honored with the prestigious Pride of Penn State award during the Penn State Alumni Jacksonville Chapter’s Annual Banquet.

The recognition came as a complete surprise to Fenton, who was nominated and selected by the chapter for her ongoing service, spirit and dedication to the values of Penn State. Ingrid Jakabcsin, chapter board secretary, reached out to Cypress Village ahead of the event to gather background on Fenton’s incredible life and career.

Fenton, who once taught Latin and Greek mythology before becoming a college administrator in undergraduate admissions at Penn State, has remained a proud Nittany Lion since her own graduation. She and Bill met at Penn State on a blind date and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary shortly after moving to Cypress Village.

At Cypress, the Fentons are beloved members of the community, active in local events and known for their warmth, humor and commitment to giving back. Joan Fenton’s honor is not only a recognition from her alma mater but a point of pride for all of the community who know and admire her.
