Devon Witt is a longtime resident of Ponte Vedra Beach and assistant manager at a successful real estate office. She is active in the community and her church.

I understand you’re the assistant manager at the Ponte Vedra office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty. Can you tell me a bit about your role?

My primary focus is to assist our managing broker, Erin Spalding, and provide support wherever it is needed. With over 120 agents in our office working seven days a week, questions come up constantly — about processes, policies or transactions — and it’s important to have someone available to help.

Although I still work with my own clients, I really enjoy the leadership aspect of my job. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty offers many tools and resources for its agents, and I’ve found that teaching others how to use them helps me stay sharp, too. It’s a win-win.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I love the relationships that I have made helping clients buy and sell their homes. Real estate can become complicated and get uncomfortable at times and things always heat up when you go on vacation, but it is so gratifying when it all comes together. On the assistant manager side, I like being someone our agents know they can count on. Sometimes, they just need to talk through a challenge to realize they already know the right answer. I love being a sounding board, and I genuinely enjoy helping others — whether it’s my own clients or my fellow agents.

Tell us a bit about your professional background. How did you find your way into this career?

I was born in Jacksonville and moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1980. Even as a kid, I had a feeling I’d never leave — and I haven’t! After graduating from Florida State with a degree in finance, I came back to work in our family business.

I married my husband Danny almost 30 years ago, and when we had our first child, I realized I wanted to be home with the kids, so I stepped away from the workforce for about 13 years. Once our kids were older, I was ready to return to work and eventually found my way into real estate through the urging of my mom who was a Ponte Vedra Beach agent for many years.

You’ve always been active in the community. What kinds of things have you been involved in?

I volunteered in my kids’ classrooms and later joined the PTO boards at their schools — PV Rawlings, Landrum and Ponte Vedra High. I also served on the boards of the Ponte Vedra Community Association and the Ponte Vedra Women’s Civic Alliance where I am still an active member. I made lasting friendships through these organizations and really enjoyed being part of groups that help make Ponte Vedra Beach so special. Currently, I serve as an elder at Palms Presbyterian Church, which I find very rewarding.

You’ve seen a lot of change in Ponte Vedra over the years. What was it like growing up here?

So much has changed! A1A was just two lanes, and students from PVPV Elementary had to go all the way to Fletcher for middle and high school. The only nearby grocery store was a Publix located where HomeGoods is now. Communities like Marsh Landing, Sawgrass Players Club and Sawmill Lakes didn’t exist yet. Back then, we had just a few neighborhoods — Old Ponte Vedra, Sawgrass Country Club, Inlet Beach and Dolphin Cove/DeLeon Shores come to mind. It felt like a small beach town, and in many ways, it still does.

What do you love most about living in this area?

Without a doubt, the people. What makes Ponte Vedra so unique is that most of us aren’t originally from here — people move here from all over the country, whether for work or retirement. I feel really lucky to live in a place that attracts so many interesting people with unique stories and backgrounds.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Spending time with family and friends makes me happiest. I enjoy cooking and reading, and I love watching sports — even though I still have a lot to learn about some of them!
