Good teams know how to take full advantage when mistakes are made by the opposing team, and the Ponte Vedra Sharks baseball squad showcased that during their 6-0 victory over the rival Nease Panthers at home on April 4.
It was a rough night for the Panthers defensively, as they committed four errors on the night, and it seemed to set the tone early as the Sharks scored four unearned runs in the first inning.
Unfortunately for the Panthers it was just one of those nights, as even when they got a strike out it happened on the same play as a passed ball by the catcher.
The Sharks pitchers took over from there as Storm Lickliter and Aspen McAdoo combined for a shutout as they allowed just two hits, and four walks scattered across seven innings.
Lickliter got the start on the mound for the Sharks and threw four strikeouts in five innings, while McAdoo polished off the win pitching the final two innings and striking out five batters in the process.
Although the four early runs would have been enough with the dominant pitching on the night, the Sharks added to the lead in the third inning as Caleb Stanton launched a two-run homer that scored Cole Rambler as well.
Not only did Lickliter and McAdoo bring productivity on the mound but it also carried over to the plate as they both recorded an RBI in the contest as well.
Being aggressive on the basepaths was also something the Sharks conveyed with five stolen bases against the Panthers.
Senior Logan Bradley started for the Panthers and gave up just two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks in six innings.
With the win, the Sharks improved to a record of 12-8 and the Panthers dropped to 8-15.
