Driver safety course could mean insurance discount

Council on Aging will present a two-day AARP Driver Safety/Smart Driver Course led by a trained instructor at THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra Beach this month. The sessions will be held at 2-5 p.m. June 28 and June 29. Attendance at both sessions is required.

Registration is required, and space is limited to 30 attendees. The fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. The course is being offered for free in Florida to individuals with AARP Medicare Supplement Plan insured by UnitedHealthcare.  Bring your proof of insurance to the class if you have this coverage.

Course fees are collected by the instructor on the first day of the course. Participants can pay for the course with check, money order or cash. Checks and money orders should be made out to AARP.

A completion certificate will be issued to participants who complete the two-day course and pay the fee. The certificate is required to be eligible for an auto insurance discount (discounts vary by insurer). Individuals may audit the course at no charge. However, no course materials or certificate will be provided without fee payment.

To register, contact: Amanda Jones at 904-280-3233 or via email at ajones@stjohnscoa.com. For more information, go to aarp.org/drive.
