EMMA Concert Association opens season with ‘Big Band Gala’

Swing into EMMA's 39th season with the “Big Band Gala” on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Flagler College Solarium at 74 King St. in St. Augustine.

The gala, a fundraiser hosted by the EMMA Guild, will feature musical entertainment by E.T. Swing’s the Thing, along with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and an eclectic silent auction from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and space is limited.

Following the Gala, EMMA's opening night concert of the season will feature the Orlando Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Greg Parnell at the Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Grenada St.

Well-known jazz singer Linda Cole will perform with the orchestra as she pays a special tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, her famous relative Nat King Cole and others. The ensemble recognizes the famous big bands of the swing era and also performs as a jazz orchestra, highlighting the music of such luminaries as Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Harry James.
