The Fletcher Middle School Beaches Go Green Club won the 2021 USGBC’s Green Schools award for “Broad Engagement” on environmental education. The BGG club students created several educational videos, which can be found on the Beaches Go Green YouTube Channel, a giant single-use plastic art installation “WAVE” for the Beaches Go Green Octopus Garden at Deck the Chairs 2020, participated in several BGG community clean-ups and hosted a lunchtime educational Earth Day display. The club met weekly throughout the school year in person and via Zoom to complete the projects, along with assistance from teacher/sponsor Scott Fretz.
