The Armed Forces Success Center (AFSC) will host both the third annual Armed Forces Open — a four-wall handball tournament — and Gala. Started by Santino Alteri, CEO and active-duty Navy lieutenant commander, AFSC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide free academic and mental health support to military families through tutoring, writing, coaching and mentorship.
In its second year in Newport, Rhode Island, the event raised more than $10,000, which was allocated to establish emergency funds for military-affiliated students.
Alteri said, “Our mission is to strengthen the bond between the military and local communities. By coming together through this event, we hope to provide a meaningful impact and show our gratitude for their sacrifices.”
He added, “We aim to build a tradition that not only honors service but also actively supports those who serve our country, year after year.”
The tournament will take place Sept. 25-27 at the LA Fitness in Jacksonville. Community members are welcome to watch or register to compete. In addition, the public is also invited to attend the Armed Forces Gala at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Jacksonville Butler Boulevard.
The gala promises a night of celebration, military ceremonies, camaraderie and entertainment, featuring an open bar cocktail hour, buffet dinner, auctions and raffles.
Registration for the tournament and gala is now open, with detailed schedules and more information available at www.afsconline.org/events. For inquiries about the events or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Santino Alteri at ceo@afsconline.org.
