Nease and Ponte Vedra High School football teams return to the gridiron Friday, Sept. 13, after having their games canceled last week because of Hurricane Dorian.

The Panthers (0-2) are back in action Friday after suffering a dramatic 58-51 loss to rival Creekside in its home opener on Friday, Aug. 30. Nease led for most of the game before the Knights rallied to tie the score 36-36 following a touchdown and a 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter. Creekside scored again midway through the fourth to lead 44-36, but the Panthers pulled even with a touchdown with 1:51 left in the game. Creekside scored again with 1:38 left, and Nease responded with a TD at the 1:05 mark to tie the game 51-51. With 17 seconds left, the Knights scored a TD to take the lead, and Nease’s final pass in the closing seconds fell incomplete giving Creekside the win.

Also, on Aug. 30, Ponte Vedra (2-0) won its matchup against host Zephyrhills 40-7. The Sharks’ defense held Zephyrhills scoreless for three quarters, mounting a 40-0 lead heading into the fourth, and also limited the Bulldogs to just 32 passing yards.

Neither Nease or Ponte Vedra played games last week. The Panthers’ home game against University Orange City and the Sharks’ home game against Gainesville Buchholz scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, were canceled because of the storm.

On Friday, Sept. 13, Nease will host Sandalwood at 7 p.m. and Ponte Vedra will play at Palatka at 7 p.m.
