Internationally renowned pianist Alessio Bax will join the Jacksonville Symphony this week to present “Mozart’s Dream: Piano Concerto No. 21,” a part of the David M. Hicks Mozart Piano Series.

The symphony’s new concert grand piano will once again take the stage for these performances. The concert will be conducted by symphony Music Director Courtney Lewis.

Bax has been called one of “the most remarkable young pianists now before the public” by Gramophone magazine. He is a familiar face on five continents as a recitalist, chamber musician and concert soloist. He has appeared with more than 150 orchestras worldwide.

In addition to Mozart’s vibrant and comedic Piano Concerto No. 21, the symphony will perform Bedřich Smetana’s zesty “Overture from The Bartered Bride,” a “vigorous and energetic work that celebrates the sheer joy of being alive,” according to Laurie Shulman, program annotator. Closing out the program is Antonín Dvořák’s “Symphony No. 7,” the inner movements of which are both “expressive and glorious.”

The concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4, at Jacoby Symphony Hall in the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, 300 Water St., Jacksonville.

Tickets can be purchased at jaxsymphony.org or by calling the symphony box office at 904-354-5547.
