Julington Creek womens league win USTA National League Championship

Julington Creek Plantation’s USTA Florida League tennis team became national champions Oct. 16 after winning the USTA League Nationals.

Defeating the USTA Pacific Northwest Section of Portland, Ore., the Women’s League reigned supreme, finishing in first place at the USTA League 40 & Over 3.0 National Championships held at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson, Ariz. winning 3-2.

That same day, the St. John’s women defeated a San Antonio team 3-2 in the semifinals, which they advanced to after winning their round-robin flight contest Friday and Sunday.

Their season roster was comprised of Michele Jordan (captain), Julia McLaughlin, Tina Schumacher, Tara Capuano, Dorri Hall, Tina Townsend, Sandra Boney, Molly Sanford, Lisa Permenter, Tracy Tripp, Patricia Britto, Pamela Belcher, Leslie de Jong, Pamela Bell, Sandy Kemp and Laurie Teichman. The Oct. 14-16 event was the first championship finish for a USTA Florida team during the 2016 USTA League National Championships season thus far.Photo provided by USTA Florida
