Karen Cecilia Adams, 55, was released from the mortal pain of cancer on Saturday, Sept. 24. Her legacy endures in the lives of her children: her son, Christopher Ketchledge and her daughter, Ashley Zydzik (Tyler). She is also survived by her mother, Miriam Rock (Jerry); stepmother, Delores Adams; sisters, Kimberly Hogle and Robin Lucas; nephews, Brendan Hogle and Jack Lucas; and niece Katie Lucas. At the end of Karen’s days on this earth, she was surrounded by her loving family, including Vanessa Hertz, Chris’ fiancée; and Karen Bessemer, her best friend for the past 40 years. Karen is predeceased by her father, Larry Adams; grandparents, Lauri and Viena Rautio (maternal); and Mabel and Ben Adams (paternal).

Karen was born in Jacksonville on Feb. 20, 1961, and graduated from Wolfson High School in 1978. She attended Santa Fe College, George Mason University and the University of North Florida. As a lover of the arts she was a docent at the Cummer Art Museum and founded an interior design business. She took great pride in helping others, volunteering with several community organizations. Karen was also an accomplished equestrian in the world of hunters and jumpers, competing throughout the east and ultimately qualifying to show in the prestigious National Horse Show held Madison Square Garden. Her love of horses and abilities were inspirations to many who knew her.

She will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered for her giving heart, witty sense of humor, joyful laugh, her faith in Christ and the unconditional love for her children, family and friends.

A Celebration of Karen’s Life was held at Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Oct. 1.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Mission House. Please sign the online guestbook at www.pontevedravalley.com.
